Mindset, Value, and Consistency

When I became a speaker in several webinars, a lot of people ask me about how to start something? How to keep yourself moving? How to achieve something?

Absolutely, you are doing great already because you asked that. It means that you have a bit of motivation to change, to be better.

The key:

  1. Growth Mindset
  2. Live value
  3. Ambition or Purpose-driven
  4. Consistency

Key #1: Growth Mindset

What is growth Mindset exactly?

In Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, Dweck writes:

What are the consequences of thinking that your intelligence or personality is something you can develop, as opposed to something that is a fixed, deep-seated trait?

  • Simply, mindsets drive what you do and why you do what you do. Growth mindsets is a belief that abilities or anything that you are doing right now can be developed.
  • A growth mindset is a belief that people can change/ develop their talents, abilities, and intelligence. Conversely, those with a fixed mindset do not believe that people can change/develop their talents abilities, and intelligence.
  • Do you ever think that you're not capable enough of handling something? That's normal. But how if I analogically your capability as a desk. The fact is when you have a small desk, that makes sense if you're not capable. But how if you replace your desk with the wider one? I have a strong belief that you are capable.

Key #2: Live Value

Why Live Value?

  • Mindsets drive what you do and why you do what you do. In Key #2, knowing why you do what you do is helping you to be 100% you.
  • Some of us say yes to every opportunity. Some of us say no to every opportunity that does not align with our values.
  • Your values are the things that you believe are important in the way you live and work.

Analogically,

When you have a lot of food on your plate, sour-sweet, spicy, all of them. Would you eat it? I guess you'll throw it away. Be like a chef, who already knows the best things for the customer plate. Be like an architect, who already measure all of the detail to make a building. Be your own self, who already knows what's best for you, align with your values. Eliminate things that prevent you from living the value of your life, that make you spend your time deciding things, overthinking, and not being a better person every day.

Still, confused about finding your values? Try using this wheel

Key #3: Ambition or Purpose-driven

Ambition means a strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work. Ambitious, sometimes, people think it's not a good thing if they are not thinking about the other. Do you have ambitions? Then reach those ambitions, strive for them, if you need to improve your skill, improve it. Remember key #1. If there is another thing that looks more interesting, evaluate it with Key #2. Are these things align with my value?

Key #4: Consistency

Just do it.

Having a growth mindset, knowing your values, being a purpose-driven person, um, enough? No, it’s nothing without key #4, Consistency.

  • The way how to put them into practice, consistently.
  • I read through jamesclear.com (Blog of Atomic Habit’s writer). It stated that:

Your only goal is to “not break the chain.” By shifting your focus away from the activity you dislike, you're giving yourself an opportunity to fall in love with the boredom of sticking to the streak (something you do enjoy).

  • Practice makes perfect. We want to achieve let say, read 48 books in a year? Break that down.
    • 12 books in a year
    • 1 book in a month
    • XX chapters in a week
    • XX pages in a day

Make your goals feasible to achieve by put consistency in it.
